Simple Tips to Help You Become the Leader Your Employees Want

You want to have employees who are motivated, productive and innovative. You know that there are many different kinds of incentives to help with this – from salary, benefits and professional growth opportunities to a supportive company culture.
But motivating employees begins with you, the person in charge. If you want employees who work hard for their leader, you have to become a leader who works hard for them. Here are a few ways to do that.

How Can I Be A Great Leader?

1. Show enthusiasm

Enthusiasm is contagious. If you want your people to be energetic and enthusiastic about what they do, they need to see it from you as well.

2. Lead by example

This is probably the most effective way of leading well. You cannot expect anything of your employees that you are not willing to do yourself. You need to model the behavior you would like to see. This will carry more weight than any commands or speeches.

3. Leverage your strengths

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and leaders need to be aware of them as well. Focus on your strengths and make the most of them to become a good leader. You may be a good communicator, for example. This is a strength that you can build on and exercise to make yourself into a better leader.
We need to work on our weaknesses also. But if you find someone who is stronger in an area where you are weaker, you can also take advantage of their skills to help you lead.

4. Set concrete goals

Everyone has goals, but they need to be concrete and specific. They must be stated in a way that makes clear when you have achieved them. For example, increasing sales is not a good goal because it is too vague. What counts as an increase? You need to attach a figure to it, so that you know when you have achieved it. And you need to set a time period for when you want to reach it, along with specific actions and steps to take to help you get to it.

5. Acknowledge failure

This again is leading by example. You cannot make any progress if you are afraid to fail because then you take no risks, you don’t push yourself or grow. Failure is a part of the process. People see failure as the opposite of success, but it is really a part of it.
But acknowledging failure is just the beginning. Then you must examine why you failed, what led to the failure, and what you can do to make sure it doesn’t happen in the future.
