Is It Time to Find a New Job – Five Signs That You Are Ready to Move On

If you are dissatisfied at work, you may wonder, is it you, or is it something about the job that just isn’t right? If things aren’t going well, we may think we just have to work harder, do more, change our routine, or something similar to make things right again. But what are the signs that maybe it isn’t us, that there really is something about the job that isn’t right and that we need to think about leaving? Here are some signs that it is definitely time to move on.

Is it time for a new job?

1. You hate the job.

You simply dread getting up for work in the morning. You feel like you are going to work in a salt mine all day, and you are feeling miserable. Work is taking up your whole life. You have little time for yourself and your family, and it is affecting your health and your relationships.

2. Your boss is the pits.

You have the world’s worst boss. He or she is not very good at his or her job. In fact, you know more than he does. Or it could be that he is arrogant and condescending, or that he takes credit for the work you do or the ideas that you come up with.

3. You feel like you are on the outside looking in.

When your supervisor shares information with the staff, you are intentionally left out of the loop. Everyone in the office has a type-A personality, and you are a type B – you just don’t feel like you fit in with things.

4. The company is in trouble.

Sales have been going down, and it looks like management is bailing water from a sinking ship. This is a sign that layoffs may be coming, and it may be better to get out while the getting is good.

5. The company is getting ready to push you out.

You get a bad performance review, which is unusual. If you have been receiving good reviews, and then suddenly you get a bad one, it may be a sign that the company is preparing to let people go.
If the company is asking you to document all of your work activities, or you are asked to train someone, it could be they are grooming someone else to take over your job, and it may be time to think about leaving.
Or you are given new duties and responsibilities, being asked to take on more tasks, ones that you are not trained for and not really able to carry out.
