The people at Opti Staffing are real professionals. They know their jobs and do them well. But most of all, they enjoy helping people! They know what job seekers are going through because they went through it themselves. They know the ups and downs and how important empathy and encouragement are.
They also know the ins and outs of hunting for a job – how to do it efficiently and effectively. They know what employers are looking for and how to match up job seekers with the right company. One of our ace executive recruiters is Sequoyah Scholz, who works in our Anchorage office. We talked with Sequoyah, and she told us why she loves being an executive recruiter and why she loves doing it at Opti.
What is your favorite part about working for Opti Staffing?
It’s definitely the excitement! When you crush that big PR (or you get stood up) or find that perfect rock star candidate (and then they fall off the face of the earth) or finally place the big position you have been working on (or kill calling it). No two days are ever the same, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Do you have a favorite Opti tradition you could highlight?
I don’t know if you could call it a tradition, but I love the competitive culture we have at Opti. From things like Tribal each year to fighting for knickknacks in a quick office blitz, I’m always up for some friendly competition to push you that much further. Plus, it’s great to be able to turn the tasks we do on a daily basis into a game. Isn’t it all just one big game anyway!
What makes Opti unique?
Hands down the people! You are never going to find a more driven, passionate, rowdy, unique, good looking bunch of people who love what they do!
Tell us about your favorite moment helping an Opti client or candidate.
I know this sounds like a cop-out, but I really have too many to choose from! This position revolves around helping clients and candidates, which is something I absolutely love about my job! Having to choose just one moment, when everything I do feels so impactful, is impossible!
What does your perfect day look like?
Waking up on a Saturday or Sunday, after sleeping in, to the love of my life and a happy baby. Whip up an awesome breakfast. Then hang out with family for the afternoon, maybe go for a walk, or catch a nap. By late afternoon the rest of the gang would come by for dinner, a few beers, board games and good company.
A Hollywood producer is making a movie about your life – who would be your pick to play the role of you?
This is tough! I guess it would have to be Jennifer Lawrence. Not because of the obvious physical similarities, but because she is a genuine weirdo who walks to the beat of her own drum and is damn good at what she does.
What was your first job?
My first job was doing on-site demonstrations for a third-party product promotion company. Okay…. I was a sample lady. I gave out samples like cheese and lotion at those little booths in the grocery store on the weekends when I was in high school
What is the one word you would use to describe Opti Staffing?
Supportive! No matter what happens professionally or personally, Opti has had my back 100%.
