Like Your Temp Jobs? Consider Making a Career Out of Those Opportunities

Many people take temporary work with an eye toward turning it into something permanent. Temporary jobs are often a good way of getting your foot in the door. The employer can get to know you and how you work, and vice versa. You get a good idea of what the job is like, the day-to-day duties and responsibilities, and whether you like the company.
So, if you are in a temp job and want to make it permanent, is there anything you can do to improve your chances? Here are a few tips.

How To Turn Temp Jobs into A Longer Opportunities

1. Check company policy first

The first thing you need to do, even before taking the job, is to find out if the company hires temp workers for full-time positions. Some companies do not, so you would be wasting your time.

2. Be dependable

This may seem like a no-brainer, but if you don’t get to work on time, finish projects by deadline, and generally do your job well, there is no way the company will hire you.

3. Go above and beyond

Treat your contract job like it is a full-time position, and you are a regular company employee. If you can take on additional assignments to show your value, do that. Offer to help other employees. Get to work early, and offer to work later if needed.
Look beyond just your job to the operations of your department and the company as a whole and see where you can help to solve problems or improve productivity.
There is also a simple way to make yourself indispensable to your supervisor – do what you can to make his or her job easier. Is there anything you can take off his plate?

4. Learn about the company

Learn as much as you can about the company and its operations – the history of the business, its financial situation, the company culture and its mission and goals.

5. Network

This is one of the most effective things you can do to help yourself land a full-time job. You are in a great position to meet people in the company, employees who can become allies in your effort. They can act as references and provide you with advice and information.

6. Make your intention known

Let your supervisor know early on of your interest in working at the company full-time. Find out what you need to do in order to get a job offer.
