One of our ace recruiters is Ryan Codling, a Skilled Trades Recruiter based out of Lake Oswego. The thing that Ryan loves most is placing people in great jobs and seeing them thrive, and he was awarded the company’s Heisman Trophy award at Opticon earlier in April. In the following Q&A, Ryan talks about his job as a recruiter and his life outside of Opti.
1. What is your favorite part about working for Opti Staffing?
You can’t beat the people here at Opti. My co-workers are absolutely amazing and we continue to push each other day in and day out. The family feel is what makes Opti such a fun place to work!
2. Do you have a favorite Opti tradition you could highlight?
My favorite Opti tradition would have to be the Christmas bash we throw every year. It’s always fun to get our offices together, eat some good grub, drink some good drinks and get crazy with our auction!
3. What makes Opti unique?
The relationship building and the extra mile we go to change peoples’ lives is what makes us so unique. We really separate ourselves from the competition by identifying what our candidates and clients need and making sure we do everything we can to make them happy.
4. Tell us about your favorite moment helping an Opti client or candidate.
I had a candidate come to me about a year ago who had just been beaten down by other employers. His confidence was low, he wasn’t interviewing well and he couldn’t find any luck in his job search. I was able to sit him down, re-write his resume, go over interview prep and build his confidence a bit more. I got him in front of one of our clients, and the next day he had his interview where he absolutely knocked it out of the park and got the offer in the exact job he was looking for. After proving himself and being signed on full-time, he called me and was very emotional. He couldn’t stop thanking me for believing in him. This situation is why I love what I do. Changing lives is extremely rewarding!
5. What does your perfect day look like?
My perfect day would consist of a lot of activity and energy in the Lake Oswego office. I love to see Skilled Trades, Operations and Direct Hire closing on placements and new clients. The laughter, positive vibes and success is what makes my days perfect! I would then end it with hanging out with my crazy 3-year-old!
6. A Hollywood producer is making a movie about your life – who would be your pick to play the role of you?
I would have to say Danny DeVito as Frank Reynolds in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” because of the uncanny resemblance as well as my love for rum ham and pull out couches.
7. What was your first job?
My first job was at Papa Murphy’s Pizza. I was slangin’ pizzas at the age of 15. Love at 425 degrees!
8. What is the one word you would use to describe Opti Staffing?
