Jump Starting Your Productivity

With summer comes heat, longer days, vacations, travel, outdoor activities. All of this tends to dampen our productivity somewhat. But, summer is now behind us, and we can rededicate ourselves to our work and ramping up our performance.
Here are a few things you can do to get back into the swing of things for fall as far as boosting your productivity, as recommended by therapists and life coaches.
1. Set up a routine.
Establishing a routine gives structure to your life. With a routine, the mundane, everyday tasks in your life become pretty much automatic, leaving you free to spend your mental energy on more important matters.
2. Hold yourself responsible
You need to hold yourself responsible for reaching your goals. One way of doing this is by talking to friends about what you want to achieve. By making your goals public in this way, you put more pressure on yourself to do what you say you are going to do, rather than look bad in front of your friends.
Make sure your goals are clear, specific, and bound by a definite time frame. Use calendars and daily schedules to help you get things done.
3. Meditate for a better mindset
Research has shown that meditation has many benefits, everything from reducing stress to helping you concentrate. It only takes 15 to 20 minutes a day. It is practiced by business executives, military personnel, even celebrities.
4. Stay focused
Figure out the most important things that you need to accomplish and focus on those things. Don’t let the unimportant things in your life get in the way of the important things. Being busy is not the same as being productive.
Don’t overcommit yourself to helping other people. You certainly want to help when you can, but when you cannot, you need to tell them you just do not have the time.
5. Take care of yourself.
You won’t be productive if you are not healthy. That means exercising every day, both resistance training and cardiovascular training. You need to get seven to eight hours of sleep each night. And you need to eat healthy as well. That means cutting out the sugar and processed foods and focusing on fruits and veggies in your diet.
