Tips for Outsourcing Your Recruiting Function

Finding the right talent for your company is a constant struggle. The talent shortage is as large as ever. To help find the right talent, some companies have decided to outsource their recruiting efforts. Is this the way to go for your company?
There is no definite answer to the question. It all depends on your situation. To determine if outsourcing is the way to go, there are several things you need to take into consideration, according to human resources specialist Garrett Sheridan.
First is to consider if it makes sense for your business and how you will measure the effectiveness of outsourcing. A lot of companies outsource just to save money. They want to reduce their cost per hire. If this is your main motivation, you need to take several factors into account, to make sure you are making valid comparisons.
You need to determine what areas of the recruiting process will remain in-house and what areas will be outsourced, so you can make a valid comparison of costs. If you decide to outsource the entire process, obviously this will make it a lot easier to compare costs. But also need to keep in mind that even if you outsource the whole process, you will need to manage it in-house. Don’t just assume that if you outsource, you won’t have to do anything.
But how wise is it to make an outsourcing decision on cost alone? There are other factors you need to look at as well, such as whether outsourcing will increase the quality of your new hires, whether it will increase your retention rate, and whether it will shorten the time it takes to fill positions. These all will have an impact on the bottom line as well, Sheridan says.
Also, different staffing services use different kinds of technologies to keep track of their operations and finances. This needs to be taken into account as well. How user friendly are these technologies, and how effective are they? You want to find a recruiter/staffing service whose technologies mesh well with your own.
You also need to do constant monitoring of the process, Sheridan says. It won’t be perfect from the start, and you will need to do tweaking as you go along, working to improve and streamline the process.
